Maker Summit at IIT Madras

In 2017, I participated in the Maker Summit at IIT Madras — a national-level hardware competition that brings together makers, innovators, and creators from across India to build and showcase their projects over several intense days of making.

Our team built an interactive entertainment book that adapts its story based on the actions and choices made by the reader. The book was designed as a learning tool to help users, especially young learners, understand the relationship between choices and their outcomes — making abstract concepts around decision-making tangible and engaging.

The project combined three tightly integrated components: the physical book itself, the embedded hardware that detects user interactions, and a dynamic presentation layer that updates the narrative in real time based on those interactions. Every choice a reader makes steers the story in a different direction, creating a personalised experience each time.

Throughout the competition, we collaborated with multiple maker communities and community champions who served as mentors, offering guidance on hardware design, storytelling logic, and user experience. Their support was invaluable in refining the project from concept to a working prototype.
